Waterslide decals are a kind of wafer-thin stickers. They are best known as the stickers which have to be released using water that are used in for example model kits. They contain a water-activated adhesive layer that is why it is best to embed the finished decal in acrylic clear lacquer to prevent damage or loosening. They can be used on all non-porous, grease-free, dust-free, solid surfaces that are not (too) absorbent. Including but not limited to: glass, ceramics, plastic, metal, varnished wood and if not too absorbent also untreated wood. These waterslide decals can also be used to decorate candles. On glass, ceramics and metal, these decals can be "baked" so that they become harder and melt on the surface, temperatures of 180ºC can be used up to a maximum of 220ºC. Heating the decal is also a good way to increase the adhesion on all surfaces. For this purpose, temperatures above 70ºC can already be effective (ensure that the substrate can handle the temperature).
Suitable for inkjet printers:
The material is universally coated for inks and therefore suitable in all water-based (dye and pigment) inkjet printers, provided that it can handle thicker paper with a weight class of 140grams. There is no need for a special printer just use the inkjet printer at home, at work or with family or friends.
Finishing after printing:
In case of waterslide decals for an inkjet printer, the coating and ink are not water-resistant. For this reason the decals have to be painted with a (Motip) acrylic base clear coat after printing, or alternatively Testor's Bonder Spray or Microscale's Liquid Decal Film.
